Popping-up in public space L’émergence de la figure du sans papiers dans l’espace public

Le sans papiers est devenu une figure récurrente dans l’espace public européen. Petit-à-petit, malgré la précarité sans droit de ceux qui sont porteurs de ’non-titre de séjour’, le concept même de sans-papiers devient structurant de la société. Le sans papiers est pour certains une figure de proue, une avant-garde annonçant des peuples nouveaux, pour d’autres il est le repoussoir appelant à la remontée des forteresses. Le sans-papiers est assurément une figure politique qui permet de penser le Politique : le dedans et le dehors, les identités fermées ou ouvertes, la perméabilité des frontières, l’universalité même des Droits, qui restent décidément nationaux, etc.

From Monday to Saturday, 10AM - 6PM Closed Sundays and public holidays.

The person without legal papers /sans papiers /(llegalized refugees and migrants) has become a recurrent motif in European public space. Step by step, in spite of the lack of rights and the precarious existence of those without legal papers, even the concept itself of /sans papiers/ has become a structural part of society.

For some the /sans papiers/ is a figurehead, forerunner of a new society, for others it is the excuse to tighten up the fortresses. The /sans papiers/ is undoubtedly a motif which turns our thoughts towards the innate nature of its politics : the interior and exterior, closed or opened identities, the permeability of borders, even the universality of rights and national structures and identity, etc.

Het beeld van de sans-papiers is een steeds wederkerende figuur in de Europese publieke ruimte geworden. Ondanks zijn precair statuut structureert de sans-papiers onze hedendaagse maatschappij. Mensen zonder verblijfsvergunning zijn in sommige ogen een nieuw boegbeeld, een avant-garde, die het ontstaan van "nieuw volk" aankondigt. Voor anderen schreeuwt de figuur van de sans-papiers dan weer om het louter versterken van de vestigingen rondom het Fort-Europa.

De sans-papiers is hiermee ongetwijfeld een politiek figuur die ons toelaat politiek te denken : over de binnen en de buitenkant, openheid of geslotenheid, identiteit en doorlaatbaarheid van de grenzen, hoe universeel de mensenrechten zijn, en hoe nauw die verbonden blijven met de territorialiteit van de natie-staten.

Het visuele onderzoek dat we omtrent dit thema /zonder papieren in de openbare ruimte /willen voeren, staat open voor elkeen die hier aan mee wenst te werken. contact : pttl@collectifs.net
